From the Oscar Bernardi Collection comes his very own 1985-86 Brazil National Team match worn home jersey, signed and inscribed by Oscar himself. According Oscar, he wore this shirt during the 1986 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign starting a year earlier. The stalwart center back was in Brazil's starting XI at the 1978 and 1982 World Cups. In 1986, he served as a substitute and appeared as either a starter or sub in most qualifiers leading up to the '86 World Cup in Mexico. Capped 59 times from 1978 to 1986, he scored twice from his defensive position.
On the club side, Oscar played for Ponte Preta in Brazil before joining the New York Cosmos of the for one glorious season in 1980 when he helped Franz Beckenbauer win his third NASL Soccer Cup. Oscar then returned to his native country for a seven-year run with São Paulo FC before finishing his pro career in Japan.
The short-sleeve shirt made by Topper comes in Brazil's home canary yellow with a V-neck collar trimmed in green with matching green cuff trim on the sleeve ends. The Topper brand logo appears on the right chest, and pressed on the left chest is the CBF crest, "BRASIL" and three stars denoting Brazil's World Cup titles to date. On the reverse is a large number "3" in green with yellow outline. The front bears a lengthy personalized inscription in Portuguese along with Oscar's signature. The jersey displays repeated match wear characteristics with fabric filling and evidence of laundry cycles.
The Oscar Bernardi Collection
This shirt comes from the personal collection of José Oscar Bernardi, better known as Oscar, who played for the Brazil National Team from 1977 to 1986. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Oscar. Most jerseys in the collection were obtained directly through player swaps after competition. Others were acquired via gifts or trade with footballers in Oscar’s wide network of teammates and friends. At age 71, he still resides in Brazil and is ready for his collection to be appreciated by others in the hobby.
