Presented here is a Bronze Medal for Tennis an Olympic demonstration sport at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games. It is unknown which athlete was issued this particular medal as apparently four athletes received bronze medals (including American Jimmy Arias). Stefan Edberg won Men's Singles Steffi Graf won Women's Singles and there was no 3rd place game for men or women.

Demonstration sports were officially introduced at the 1912 Summer Olympics. Tennis returned to the Summer Olympic Games for just the 2nd time in 60 years at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles but only as a demonstration sport like it had been the previous time in 1968. At the subsequent 1988 Summer Games in Seoul tennis once again became an official medal sport for the first time since 1924. Traditionally the medals awarded for demonstration sports followed the same design as the Olympic medals but of a slightly smaller size. These medals are not included in the official medal count.

The beautiful bronze-plated medal is 5 mm thick and 60 mm in diameter and weighs 128 grams. It comes with its lovely teal orange and pink colored ribbon fully intact. The obverse has the Olympic motto "Citius Altius Fortius" over a male and female tennis player with "XXIII OLYMPIAD" at the bottom. The reverse has the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games emblem over Olympic rings and laurel branches. It comes in NM-MT condition in its original blue velvet presentation case enclosed in a blue box.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
