Presented here are Silver and Bronze Medals for Windglider (aka Windsurfing) an Olympic demonstration sport at the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games. The 9 nautical mile race was won by Stephan Vandenburg of Holland. Scott Steel from the USA finished second and Bruce Kendall from New Zealand was third. Demonstration sports were officially introduced at the 1912 Summer Olympics. 1984 marked the first time windsurfing was contested at the Olympics. Traditionally the medals awarded for demonstration sports followed the same design as the Olympic medals but of a slightly smaller size. These medals are not included in the official medal count. The beautiful medals one silver-plated and the other bronze-plated are 5mm thick and 60mm in diameter. Bronze weighs 128g and Silver weighs 154g. Each come with their lovely teal orange and pink colored ribbons fully intact. The obverse has the Olympic motto "Citius Altius Fortius" over a windsurfer with "XXIII OLYMPIAD" at the bottom. The reverse has the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games emblem over Olympic rings and laurel branches. Silver is Mint and Bronze NM-MT. Each comes in its original blue velvet presentation case enclosed in a blue box.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
