Offered here is a France National Team goalkeeper jersey from 1979-80 worn by goalkeeper Philippe Bergerôo and preserved in the Oscar Bernardi Collection.
The long-sleeve jersey is constructed in adidas bright green heavy cotton, the traditional goalkeeper color of this era, featuring a distinctive high mock-turtleneck collar design specific to adidas goalkeeper jerseys of the late 1970s. The sleeves carry adidas three-stripe detailing in white, red and blue — referencing the French tricolor — running the full length of the sleeve from shoulder to cuff. The left chest bears the embroidered Fédération Française de Football (FFF) badge featuring the iconic Gallic rooster in gold and the FFF designation in blue on a yellow shield. The reverse carries a heavily distressed applied white "#19" numeral that shows significant cracking and deterioration of the applied graphic, providing compelling evidence of authentic heavy match and training use over multiple seasons. The notation "SOMMS" appears twice in small green lettering beside the number — a period-correct marking consistent with team equipment tagging of the era.
The jersey presents with appropriate patina and wear for a late 1970s goalkeeper jersey. Bergéroo was part of France's developing squad during this transitional period. From the Oscar Collection.
The Oscar Bernardi Collection
This shirt comes from the personal collection of José Oscar Bernardi, better known as Oscar, who played for the Brazil National Team from 1977 to 1986. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Oscar. Most jerseys in the collection were obtained directly through player swaps after competition. Others were acquired via gifts or trade with footballers in Oscar’s wide network of teammates and friends. At age 71, he still resides in Brazil and is ready for his collection to be appreciated by others in the hobby.
