Here is an extraordinary vintage jersey from the collection of Brazilian great Oscar: a match-worn SC Corinthians Paulista away jersey from the 1978/79 season worn by the iconic Sócrates.
The short-sleeve jersey is constructed in a fine ribbed cotton knit in Corinthians' traditional black and white vertical stripe pattern, featuring white ribbed crew-neck collar and matching white ribbed cuff trim on the sleeves — a timeless design synonymous with one of Brazil's most storied clubs. The left chest bears the embroidered Corinthians Paulista crest — a circular design featuring crossed anchors, a ring and cross motif, and the club's founding year of 1910 — in the classic red, white and black color scheme.
The maker's label from Athleta, a period-correct Brazilian sportswear brand, is visible at the collar interior. The reverse displays a bold applied white "#9" numeral in a classic block style. The jersey presents with genuine match use throughout, including fabric wear and softening consistent with its age and heavy use.
Sócrates, the physician-philosopher and one of Brazil's most celebrated midfielders, was a central figure in the legendary Corinthians Democracy movement of the early 1980s, and this jersey predates that era. He remains one of the most beloved and iconic figures in the history of Brazilian football.
The Oscar Bernardi Collection
This shirt comes from the personal collection of José Oscar Bernardi, better known as Oscar, who played for the Brazil National Team from 1977 to 1986. Included is a letter of provenance signed by Oscar. Most jerseys in the collection were obtained directly through player swaps after competition. Others were acquired via gifts or trade with footballers in Oscar’s wide network of teammates and friends. At age 71, he still resides in Brazil and is ready for his collection to be appreciated by others in the hobby.
