This handsome gamer was worn by Dave Schultz the man whose name is instantly recognizable to generations of fans as one of the legendary enforcers in the NHL and the man who holds the NHL record for most penalty minutes in a single season at 472. He earned the nickname "The Hammer" for his aggressive style of hockey. He was one of the most notable enforcers on the Philadelphia Flyers' infamous "Broad Street Bullies" in the rough-and-tumble 1970's. After winning two Stanley Cups with the Flyers (197374 and 197475) "The Hammer" drifted through several teams (Pittsburgh Penguins Los Angeles Kings and Buffalo Sabres) in search of a permanent position. Schultz could be more than an enforcer; he scored 20 goals for Philadelphia in 197374 and also scored the series-clinching goal in overtime in the first round of the 1974 Stanley Cup playoffs against the Atlanta Flames. This road purple heavy mesh gamer by Goodman & Sons was worn by the famed enforcer during the 1977-78 NHL season. It has the gold stripe knit highlights at the waist collar and sleeves. The shirt has the Goodman & Sons (Size 48) tag on the inside shirt tail and features the intricately embroidered crown patch at the front of the shirt and gold and white tackle twill letters for his name (sewn directly to the shirt on back) and for his No. 14 on the back and sleeves. The jersey shows significant game-use including stick marks on the front and a number of tears holes and team repairs on the sleeves paint transfer on the shoulder and a 1-inch tear in the tackle twill in his number on the back. In short the kind of war-weary jersey you might expect from Dave Schultz.
Includes a Letter of Authenticity from the Los Angeles Kings and a Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum Collection.
