Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th President of the United States serving from 1969 until 1974 when he became the only U.S. president to resign from office. Nixon had previously served as a U.S. representative and senator from California and as the 36th Vice President of the United States under Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1953 to 1961. When it came to golf Nixon was considered one of the least athletic of the nations Commanders in Chief who had a decent short game but whose drives rarely if ever surpassed 200 yards off the tee.

Offered here is a set of 10 custom signature model clubs (three woods and seven irons) that Nixon used during the 1970s. The three PGA branded woods (1 3 and 5) all boast the Presidential seal in gold on the top of the club heads and have each been emblazoned with Mr. President in gold lettering on the tip of the club heads. The Swing Rite golf grips and the club heads all reflect plenty of use and the serial number 1497AA can be found in white on the back of the club heads just below the hosel. White-and-burgundy-colored knit club heads are included for each of the woods.

The accompanying PGA irons 3 4 5 6 7 9 and a pitching wedge are all engraved with the presidential seal and Mr. President in script on the back of the club heads. Each of the clubs also has the following serial number (4620GGG) engraved in yellow on the back of each hosel. The grips and club heads are show ample use. According to the consignor Newport Sports Museum Founder and Curator John Hamilton he was gifted the set of clubs from his mother Patricia R. Hitt who served as co-chairman in the Nixon for President campaign in 1968. According to Hamilton his mother received the clubs from one of Nixons daughters Julie or Tricia.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
