Throughout his long career LeRoy Neiman has painted dozens of sports legends including Babe Ruth Joe DiMaggio Wayne Gretzky Michael Jordan and even Secretariat. But it was his beautiful depictions of Muhammad Ali (aka "The Greatest of All Time") that cemented Neiman's legacy as perhaps the greatest sports artist of all time. Neimans unique relationship with Ali dates back to 1962 when the artist met the fighter then known as Cassius Clay in the dressing room of New York's St. Nicholas Arena before his bout against Billy Daniels. Neiman sketched the young heavyweight sitting on the rubbing table. Clay immediately showed his own interest in art by asking to sketch himself at the bottom of Neiman's drawing. This was the beginning of a long friendship between two men. Neiman frequently sketched and painted the athlete in training and at his major bouts around the world. Ali often took up the brush himself and did a number of prediction drawings for Neiman before his biggest fights.

Leroy Neimans popular work entitled The Red Boxer is presented here in the form of a limited edition serigraph (#139/250). Neimans bold pencil signature appears in the bottom right margin. The image captured Alis epic first battle with Joe Frazier in 1971 (aka Fight of The Century) at New Yorks Madison Square Garden. The lovely piece measures approximately 20" by 26" and comes nicely framed and matted for an overall size of 28" by 35".

Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA (Z09734).
