The great Henry Aaron could hit baseballs out of ballparks with such regularity that he earned the nickname Hammerin Hank. As the man who surpassed the legendary Babe Ruth in the MLB record books for career home runs Aaron was feared at the plate nearly every time he came up. The monumental round-tripper home run No. 715 occurred on April 8 1974 in the fourth inning of the Braves fourth game of the season. Batting against Al Downing of the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers Aaron swatted the baseball over the left-center field wall in front of 53775 screaming fans a single-game attendance record for what was then-called Atlanta Stadium. He would go on to hit exactly 40 more home runs over the next two seasons before retiring in 1976 after playing in just 85 games.

This lot includes a pair of significant game-worn uniform pieces that Aaron wore during this pivotal time in history. The first is his game-worn and autographed Braves home jersey from the previous 1973 MLB season. It was the campaign that led up to history as Aaron hit 40 homers to finish the year with 713 to his credit. The blue-and-white size 42 knit jersey which shows substantial wear has "Braves" lettered across the front and features the number "44" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are appliqud in white-on-red-tackle twill (with white Swiss embroidered edging). The Braves blue red and white "feather" emblem adorns each sleeve. The size year and set number ("42-73-Set 2") are chain-stitched in white upon a blue strip tag located in the collar. Positioned directly above the strip tag is a sewn-in "Sand-Knit Size 42" label. Original and unaltered the jersey displays excellent wear including some slight fraying on both the front and reverse lettering and/or numerals. Aaron signed the left sleeve in black fine-point marker.

The second piece to this lot is Aarons game-worn Braves white pants from the historical ensuing season of 1974. The size 36 Wilson pants show substantial game usage with some small stains on the front. Next to the sewn-in Wilson manufacturers label on the inside of the waistband is a rather large white strip tag that has the following notations chain-stitched in dark gray: 44 74 23 R. Aarons uniform number (44) appears in black marker to the left and right of the inside tags. Aaron signed the front of the left leg just below the belt line in the same black fine-point marker. An incredible combination of two game-used garments worn by one of baseballs most historical figures during a significant time in baseball history.

Autographs pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

Includes a LOA from MEARS (Grade A10).
