Argentina native Carlos Monzn was a hard-hitting middleweight who rose through the ranks in the late 1960s before establishing himself as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990 he was chosen by Ring Magazine in 2002 as the 11th greatest fighter of the last 80 years. On November 11 1972 Monzn (77-3-9) entered the ring to defend his middleweight crown against Philadelphia native Bennie Briscoe (43-10-1) at the Estacio Luna Park in Buenos Aires Argentina. It was a rematch from their 1967 bout that ended in a draw. The scheduled 15-rounder went the distance with Monzn retaining both his WBC and WBA middleweight titles via unanimous decision. He held the WBA Middleweight belt all the way through his retirement in 1977 an impressive streak of 14 title defenses! This lot includes the actual fight-worn gloves Monzn wore in that memorable '72 Briscoe rematch. The red Corti gloves show plenty of wear and include their original laces. A terrific piece of historical fight-worn memorabilia from one of the hardest-hitting middleweights ever.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Monzn Family. The letter written in Spanish misidentifies the gloves as being "negro" (black) instead of rojo (red). He did wear black gloves in their first bout in '67. All other details are accurate.
