Super Bowl V which was played on January 17 1971 in the Miami Orange Bowl pitted the AFC Champion Baltimore Colts against the NFC Champion Dallas Cowboys. In a hard-fought game the score stood tied at 13 with just nine seconds left on the clock. Colts kicker Jim O’Brien then nailed a 32-yard field goal and the Colts prevailed 16-13 to win the NFL title.
This lot features a beautifully crafted and designed 1971 Baltimore Colts Super Bowl V Championship 10K gold pendant with bracelet that was awarded to special teams player and backup running back Jack Maitland. Just a 22-year-old rookie at the time Maitland made an immediate impact that season by rushing 74 times for 209 yards and scoring two touchdowns. The pendant with accompanying six-inch bracelet and clasp features the Colts’ trademark upside down horseshoe design in the center on top of a large blue stone. The horseshoe envelops a large round CZ stone and includes seven small blue gemstones as part of its design. Sporting a 10K gold setting the pendant reads “BALTIMORE COLTS WORLD CHAMPIONS” on the top and bottom portions. The back of the pendant is engraved “JACK MAITLAND RB - 40” as it refers to his position and uniform number.
