Never has losing borne such an indisputable badge of honor than with the thousands of pastings suffered by the Washington Generals over four decades as they obligingly tangled with the Harlem Globetrotters in games held across the world. The team boasted of only one triumph in its 43-year history - a 1971 win over the Globetrotters in which team owner/coach/player Red Klotz scored the winning bucket. Few teams ever gained as much fame and/or notoriety while losing with such uh exuberance: perhaps more than 14000 games in that four-decades plus span with the Globetrotters. Offered here is a Generals uniform worn during the 1970's. This green-colored mesh pullover garment features "Washington" heat-transferred across the chest in gold cursive characters and the number "6" in like fashion to the back and upper right front. Light green stretch-ribbed cotton lines the V-neck and arm yokes. On the left front tail a "Sand-Knit" Size "42" manufacturer's label is detached from the shirt on the left side. The tiny MacGregor logo patch appears on the left shoulder of the jersey which shows good game use and some of the expected cracking of the heat-transferred elements. The matching game-worn shorts are also green-colored mesh with the lighter green trim lining the outer legs leg openings and a elastic waistband. The waistband features a draw string and sewn at the back portion of the waistband's interior a "Sand-Knit" Size 38 manufacturer's label. The small MacGregor logo patch appears on the front left and the gold tackle twill star on the right. Moderate wear is evident and the waistband shows the expected loss of elasticity.

Comes with a copy of a 3/6/1999 letter from Washington Generals owner Red Klotz. Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum Collection.
