Featured here is a 1969 Montreal Expos home jersey and pants pairing from the franchise’s inaugural MLB season. They comes with direct provenance from longtime MLB scout Bill Schudlich who began his scouting career with the Montreal Expos in their ’69 expansion season. The cream-colored flannel button-down #55 jersey may have been worn by a coach as no Expos player wore that number during the MLB regular season. Another possibility is that a player wore it in spring training or the minor leagues. The red white and blue Expos “elb” logo is sewn on left front chest with "expos" in blue sewn below. Right chest and reverse have No. "55" in blue tackle twill. Rawlings size 40 tagging is found on the left front tail with washing instructions and "SET 1 1969" below. The sleeve ends have red white and blue piping. The gorgeous jersey exhibits solid wear with a taped team repair on the lower back and a slight tear in the flannel fabric between the front numbers. There is fraying in the right armpit holes.

The accompanying cream-colored home button-up flannel pants have red white and blue piping running down both sides. They are properly labeled by Rawlings inside the front waistband with size 34 indicated washing instructions and a "SET 1 1969" flag tag. A strip tag with “34 26” width and length appears inside the rear waistband. “35” is penned in black marker twice near the top button. This could be a player number which was worn by Expos’ utility outfielder Jim Fairey in 1969. Pants display excellent wear with some dirt staining in the rear. Great set to own from Montreal’s inaugural season.

Includes LOA from former Expos scout Bill Schudlich.

Provenance: Bill Schudlich has been a Major League Baseball scout for almost half a century. He started out with the Montreal Expos when they became MLB’s first Canadian expansion team in 1969. From there he scouted for the Detroit Tigers from 1977-96 where he signed John Smoltz and later served as Scouting Director for ten years. Since 1998 he has been scouting for the Cleveland Indians and still works part-time.
