The Washington Senators became the Minnesota Twins in 1961 after the team moved to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul). One of its mainstay players during the move and subsequent 15 seasons in Minnesota was slugger extraordinaire Harmon Killebrew. Standing 5’ 11” tall and a compact 210 lbs. Killebrew went on to hit 573 home runs during his 22-year MLB career and became a Hall of Famer in 1984 four seasons after retiring. This lot features Killebrew’s game worn Minnesota Twins road uniform from the 1964 season a campaign in which he led the American League with 49 home runs.

The 53-year-old gray flannel uniform displays adequate wear yet remains in remarkably good condition. Across the front of the jersey is “Twins” in script navy blue tackle twill outlined in red.  Still possessing its original seven gray buttons the jersey boasts the proper Spalding manufacturer’s tag on the front left tail positioned above dark blue chain stitching that reads: “Killebrew 3 44 64” to indicate the player uniform number size and season. The left sleeve is sporting the iconic “Minnesota Twins” embroidered patch showing a pair of ballplayers representing Minneapolis and St. Paul shaking hands. Across the back of the jersey stretching seven-and-a-half inches tall is his legendary uniform number “3” in navy blue tackle twill outlined in red. A separate sewn-on cloth nameplate reading “Killebrew” in blue chain stitching appears on the inside rear collar.

The accompanying gray flannel pants show light to moderate use with proper Spalding manufacturer’s tag residing on the inside right waistband next to a washing instructions tag. Across the inside rear of the waistband is a sewn-on cloth nameplate that reads “Killebrew 36/38 3 Set 2 26 ins 64” in dark blue chain stitching. All four original buttons on the zipper remain intact as do the single buttons on the two back pockets. Simply an exquisite game-worn uniform from one of the Twins most beloved players and one of the greatest sluggers ever.
