Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson was nicknamed The Human Vacuum Cleaner by virtue of his jaw-dropping Gold Glove defense at the hot corner. He never met a sharp grounder he couldnt corral. In addition to his flawless glove work Robinson collected 2848 hits as he batted a steady .267 over 23 seasons all with the Orioles. An 18-time All-Star Robinson also helped the Orioles reach four World Series winning the Fall Classic on two occasions (1966 and 70). One of the two World Series defeats came at the hands of the upstart New York Mets in 1969 who surprised the Os in five games. Remaining in completely original unaltered condition the gray flannel button-down garment features "Baltimore" angled across the chest in orange-on-black felt script characters. In like fashion the icon's since-retired number "5" is sewn to the back and left front with "B. ROBINSON" arched atop the number on the back. An MLB "100TH ANNIVERSARY" patch resides on the left sleeve and there are four air holes (as designed) under each custom-hemmed sleeve. On the vented and tapered left front tail a "SPALDING" manufacturer's label is accompanied by a size "42" tag to its immediate right and a laundering instructions tag to the south. Within the collar a felt strip tag has chain-stitched notations of "42 - Set 2 - 69 - 5" indicating size set season and uniform number.
Moderate wear is evident with minimal pilling about the orange felt elements. The only noticeable imperfection is that the second of seven buttons has cracked in half. Other than that this is a beautiful totally original Brooks gamer that leaves nothing to be desired. Robinson has signed the jerseys right front tail in fine-point black marker (9/10).
