The only people who get more nostalgic for the year 1967 than Cardinals fans are Boston Red Sox fans and they lost to the Cards in that Falls thrilling World Series. Garnering a ring in his first full year in the Cardinal's rotation Steve Carlton was at the dawn of an epic 24-year career. The man who would go on to record 329 major league wins and snag four Cy Young Awards in the years to come wore this spectacular road jersey - complete with long-sleeved undershirt - in that storied 1967 championship season. He solidified a spot in a fearsome rotation behind Bob Gibson winning 14 and losing only 9 in recording a 2.98 ERA. The offered jersey is stunning in prime all original condition yet showing game use. All its elements are simply sublime from the pristine black-and-red felt letters and numbers front and back to the elegant chenille Cardinals two-bird logo above the cursive "Cardinals" on the front. The jersey carries the red Rawlings tag on the front-left tail (shows a bit of wear on the edges) plus the cleaning tag at the bottom of the tail and a small adjacent flag tag with "Set 1 1967." Between the two tags is "Carlton 67" in red stitching. A white Rawlings Size 50 tag appears on the collar of the undershirt showing a bit of wear to one side of the tag; on the back of the undershirt by the collar Carlton's name and uniform number have been hand written in black marker. The Hall of Famer has added a striking black Sharpie autograph to the front of the shirt beneath his number adding the inscription "My 1967 Jersey." The number of totally original Carlton Cardinals flannels weve seen can be counted on one hand with fingers to spare.
