The rookie card of baseball's all-time strikeout king, this 1968 Topps #177 Mets Rookie Stars pairs a 21-year-old Nolan Ryan with fellow pitcher Jerry Koosman. Ryan is pictured in his Mets pinstripes and blue cap with a youthful, steely-eyed look, alongside Koosman, framed by the classic 1968 "burlap" border design. The reverse notes that "in 1966, Nolan had a sensational 17-2 record with Greenville" and "struck out 313 batters," hailing the "21 year old right-hander" as "one of the most promising rookies in the majors."

That promise proved to be one of the great understatements in sports history. Ryan and Koosman both helped the "Miracle Mets" capture the 1969 World Series, before Ryan went on to a 27-season career with the Mets, Angels, Astros and Rangers. He retired with Major League records for strikeouts (5,714) and no-hitters (seven), led his league in strikeouts 11 times and won 324 games, and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999 with 98.8 percent of the vote. Koosman, meanwhile, won 222 games and was a two-time All-Star.

This example has been graded VG-EX 4 by PSA (cert. #160333619). The card displays strong color in both portraits and solid overall eye appeal, with wear consistent with the assigned grade. As one of the most iconic and widely collected cards of the 1960s, the Ryan rookie remains a cornerstone of the vintage market and a must-have for any serious collection.
