Thirty-nine years ago on June 10 1977 Al Geiberger shot a 13-under 59 in the second round of the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic becoming the first golfer to break 60 on the PGA Tour. Throughout his distinguished career Geiberger won 11 tournaments on the PGA Tour one of which was the 1966 PGA Championship a major title. He won the Tournament Players Championship in 1975 and played on the Ryder Cup teams in 1967 and 1975. Geiberger also won 10 times on the Senior PGA Tour now called the Champions Tour. But he'll forever be remembered as the first tour player to break 60.

Presented here is Geibergers tournament used Spalding 4 iron. His name is branded on the back of the club head. Accompanying the club is letter of provenance from Geiberger to Newport Sports Museum owner and curator John Hamilton attesting to its authenticity and stating that he used the club in 1965 to win the American Golf Classic.
