Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th President of the United States serving from 1969 to 1974 when he became the only U.S. president to resign the office. Nixon had previously served as a U.S. Representative and Senator from California and as the 36th Vice President of the United States from 1953 to 1961. This lot features a pair of Richard Nixon secretarial signed artifacts from his days in political office. The first item is a small shadowbox (7 wide by 7 high by 2 deep) that features a White House business card upon which is written in ink: With best wishes Richard Nixon. On the lower portion of the shadowbox display which includes a green background to resemble a putting green is a mounted dark gray golf tee that reads Richard Nixon stamped in yellow.

The second secretarial signed piece is a typed letter on Richard Nixon stationary thats dated June 20 1962. It appears to be a thank you response to a well-wisher named Mr. Paul W. Williams of New York. Judging from its date of June 1962 it seems to be making reference to Nixons upcoming gubernatorial race versus incumbent California Governor Pat Brown. Five months after the letter was typed Nixon lost to Brown by more than five percentage points. In the typed letter it includes the following passage: There is nothing I would enjoy more than having the opportunity to play golf at Piping Rock. However as you can well imagine my schedule for the coming months will preclude that pleasant possibility. It is signed Dick in fine-point marker by someone other than Richard Milhous Nixon. The framed and matted letter measures 9 wide by 11 high.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
