In a nine-year career with five different teams Don Lee compiled a 4044 record with 467 strikeouts a 3.61 ERA and 11 saves. On September 2 1960 Lee surrendered a home run to Ted Williams in the first game of a doubleheader between the Senators and Boston Red Sox. Twenty-one years before in his rookie season Williams hit a home run off Don's father Thornton Lee then with the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 17 1939. With this feat Williams became the only player in major league history to hit home runs against a father and son.

This impeccable gray flannel button-down garment features "LOS ANGELES" arched across the chest in dark blue-on-red felt characters with "48" applied to the back in like fashion. Dark blue-and-red striped piping surrounds the neck and hemmed sleeve endings and situated on the left front tail a "TIM McAULIFFE" manufacturer's label is accompanied by tags respectively denoting "'63" and size "48" as well as a felt strip tag on which "Lee" is embroidered in bright green cursive characters; a portion of that last tag has separated from the shirt. Moderate wear is evident with light fraying of the stitching on portions of the piping and indications of a number change or shift in position of the number 8 on the back and the Los Angeles lettering on the front. Adding nicely to the intrigue of a classic vintage shirt dating to only the third year of existence of a key major league franchise is a tidy black Sharpie autograph under the vintage Angels team name on the front. For whatever reason this shirt is not signed by Don Lee but rather Bill Lee - the southpaw reliever known as "The Spaceman" for his use of the eephus (moon) pitch as well as his bizarre personality - and includes a "2005" inscription along with the precise galactic location of the signing "Earth." For purists offended by such shenanigans being committed on a vintage jersey professional removal might seemingly be an option.

Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Newport Sports Museum.
