The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) National Softball Hall of Fame and Museum was established in 1957. Once the ASA moved to Oklahoma City January 1 1966 after having its offices in Newark NJ the decision to establish a Hall of Fame Building in OKC was made in January of 1965. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Hall of Fame were held December 19 1970 in Oklahoma City. But before any of this groundbreaking activity took place there was a prestigious award plaque that went to the Amateur Softball Association World Champions in 1956. The impressive plaque which measures 14 wide by 21 high includes a bronze softball field with a female player on a pedestal swinging through at the top. Flanked by Olympic-style olive branches on either side the nine-pound plaque has the following text engraved across the outfield portion: COCA-COLA BOTTLER AWARD AMATEUR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION WORLD CHAMPIONS 1956.
