Offered here is a vintage game-used helmet and football combination from 1960s Yale University gridiron action! The Yale Bulldogs were the most dominant program in the early years of intercollegiate football winning 26 national championships in a 38-year span 1872-1909. Since the Ivy League conference was formed in 1955 forbidding its scholar colleges from post-season play Yale has won 14 conference titles including four in the 1960s.
The Riddell Kra-Lite helmet comes in ivory white with double indigo colored striped along the center of the shell. This TK5 model (1955-1966) was the first manufactured style to feature a one-piece shell. "RIDDELL" and "KRA-LITE" are stamped on the rear of the shell along with a "YALE" blue Dymo label. The shell is full of multiple paint transfers scratches and other game-used marks. The interior of the helmet has a three-loop six-point suspension system using cotton-nylon webbing all intact and perfectly in place. A "TK5 TRU KURV HELMET KRA-LITE" label is stuck inside at the rear. "7" (i.e. size) and "2" (?) are stamped on two of the interior straps. The double-bar facemask Riddell chinstrap and leather ear pads are all original and have held up remarkably well considering the obvious signs of wear.
The accompanying Yale game-used football comes with "YALE" and "SPALDING OFFICIAL INTER-COLLEGIATE REG. U.S. PAT. OFF" stamps on the leather. The ball shows plenty of game-use and comes partially deflated. The laces are fully intact and the leather material still has maintained its grip. Overall just an incredible set for vintage college football and Ivy League collectors.
