There is nothing more exciting in baseball than a play at the plate, and this Type 1 photo captures such a moment. The action depicted in this perfectly composed shot took place in the second inning of the July 27, 1954, game against the Chicago Cubs at Ebbets Field. Robinson hit what should have been a single to left, but was able to take second on a fielding error. Carl Furillo then smacked a single into right field, allowing the speedy Robinson to race around third and head for home. Cubs backstop Walker Cooper took the relay throw, but Robinson was able to elude his tag and slide across the plate for the game’s first run. The Dodgers would go on to edge out the Cubs, 7-6. There is some wear to the white border area, but nothing that intrudes into this marvelous action shot. The reverse has the original caption slug affixed along with a George Michael Collection hologram. The photograph has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
