With their defeat of the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1953 World Series the New York Yankees achieved something even the great “Murderer’s Row” clubs of the 1920s and 1930s couldn’t do – win five consecutive World Championships. To commemorate this unrivaled achievement the Yankees commissioned a custom serving tray that was presented to the players and executives. This plate was presented to Percy Dawson who as one of the leading Yankees scouts had a behind the scenes role in assembling the team that would win five-straight World Championships. The 13” in diameter silver plated tray features a baseball motif with the facsimile signatures of the Yankees team surrounding the Yankees hat and bat logo and the dates of their five consecutive World Championships. The plate shows some wear from use with several imperfections in the silver plating and light surface abrasions visible. A fitting tribute to the one of the most dominant teams in the history of American sports.
Letter of provenance from Dawson relative.(Note: there is one original letter encompassing Lots 160 162 &166. It will go to the highest selling lot. The other lots will getphotocopies should the winning bidder be different.)
