The 1953 edition of the Brooklyn Dodgers featured the best offensive lineup in the history of the franchise. This photo, taken on the field in Yankee Stadium before the World Series, captures the five Dodgers who hit .300 or better that summer: Gil Hodges hit .302, Roy Campanella batted .312 and led the league in RBI, Jackie Robinson averaged .329, Duke Snider was second in the NL home run race and hit .336, and Carl Furillo was the NL batting champ with a .344 average. Each of these heavy-hitters poses with their bats at the ready and eager to use them against the Yankees in the series. Of note is the bandage on Furillo’s left hand — he broke a finger trying to fight the entire New York Giants team earlier in the month. The Type 1 photograph has wide white borders and nice contrast. The reverse has the original “9/28/53” caption slug affixed. The photo has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a Type 1 Authentic.
