Here is a treasured piece of NCAA basketball history a full warm-up jacket and pants from Lou Tsioropoulos a key member of the NVAA Champion Kentucky Wildcats worn during that historic season when the Adolph Rupp-led squad won its third collegiate title in a span of four years. The small forward would later play three seasons for the Boston Celtics who had drafted him and his famous Wildcat teammates from that 1951 season Hall of Famers Frank Ramsey and Cliff Hagan. Such are the bona fides of this remarkable white satin jacket with Kentucky Blue collar trim and waist. The jacket carries an O'Shea Knitting Mills Chicago tag on the collar and on the waistband of the pants (Size 36). The jacket and pants are nothing short of sensational in superb condition yet showing game use with no alterations of any kind apparent and only a button missing at the bottom of the knitted waist area. Along with the blue-and-white trim on knitted collar sleeves and waist the back boasts blue satin letters "Kentucky" across the top secured by intricate silver stitching. An absolutely stunning Wildcat mascot appears beneath in blue satin with extremely elaborate stitching and chenille embroidery in silver white and red. The pants show even more evident game use enhanced by the fine condition blue MacGregor belt. The pants have Tsiroropoulos' No. 16 in blue satin and silver embroidered stitching on the left hip and blue piping on each leg. In a fascinating postscript to the 1951 title story Tsioropoulos Ramsey and Hagan all graduated from Kentucky in 1953 and as a result became eligible for the NBA Draft. As noted above all three players were selected by the Boston Celtics but also returned to Kentucky for one more season despite graduating. After finishing the regular season (one in which Tsioropoulos averaged 14.5 points per game) with a perfect 25-0 record and a No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press Kentucky had been offered a bid into the NCAA Tournament. However then-existing NCAA rules prohibited graduate students from participating in postseason play. The Wildcats declined the bid because their participation would have forced them to play without their three stars thus jeopardizing their perfect season. Tsioropoulos' No. 16 jersey was retired by his alma mater and he is in the University of Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame. Comes with a Letter of Provenance from Lou Tsioropoulos.
