Joe DiMaggio won nine World Series championships during illustrious Hall of Fame career in just thirteen MLB seasons (missed 1943-45 due to WW2). That means 69.2% of every season he played, the Yankees won it all. Joe had eight career home runs in World Series play, with his final big fly coming in Game 4 of the 1951 World Series against the New York Giants at the Polo Grounds. Not only was that two-run shot into the left-field stands his final Fall Classic dinger, but it also became the final home run he would ever hit as a Yankee. The two-run shot off Giants starter Sal Maglie in the top of the fifth inning made the score 4-1 in favor of the Bronx Bombers. They won the game, 6-2, to even the Series at two games apiece and would go on to clinch in six. The Yankee Clipper retired after the season, going out on top as the ultimate champion.
Presented here is an important original photograph showing DiMaggio greeting his exhuberant Yankees teammates in the dugout after the historic homer, not knowing this would be his last ever round-tripper. The timely shot shows the delight on each of his teammates’ faces as he brought them one step closer to yet another World Series title. Captioned on the back with a fully intact slug by ACME, it has the media company's official stamp as well. Perfectly centered within snow-white borders, the only noticeable blemish is a pinhole at the top edge from display.
