The 1947 Michigan Wolverines ended their undefeated season with a decisive thumping of the USC Trojans on January 1 1948 by a score of 49-0. As the saying goes the score wasn't that close. Michigan dominated the Trojans on both sides of the ball. Michigan entered the game as the #2 team in the country behind Notre Dame But passed the Fighting Irish in the first ever post season poll to lay claim to the mythical national title. The team signed football is an official size Wilson #d38 Scrimmage football signed by 38 of the Michigan players on the top two panels. On the bottom two panels are the scores from the 1947-48 season that include 4 wins by shutout with an overall record of 10-0. All of the signatures are in black ball point pen with the majority of them still legible with a few signature show signs of fading. The condition of the ball has extensive wear and cracks along the seams. Notable Signatures include: George Kiesel - QB Don Hershberger - end Robert Hollway - end Don Kuick - halfback Kurt Kampe JR - guard Wally Teninga - halfback Bill Pritula - right tackle and Bob Mann - left end.
Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
