The Notre Dame Fighting Irish led by legendary head coach Frank Leahy and All-American quarterback Frank Tripucka finished the 1948 season undefeated at 9-0-1. On November 27th the second to last weekend of the season the Irish crushed the Washington Huskies at South Bend 46-0 to keep their perfect season alive. They tied USC the following week and finished #2 in the final poll behind the 9-0 Michigan Wolverines. This leather Spalding "No. J5" branded football is cut in two halves each with backs secured by a wooden ellipse and presented as a two-piece game ball trophy from Notre Dame's November 27 1948 shellacking over the Huskies. One is marked "Washington" and the other "Notre Dame" in pencil on the wooden ellipses. Each piece comes in VG-EX condition.
Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
