Featured here are two extremely rare pieces of official kit from two participating nations in the 1948 London Olympics Rowing competition each acquired post-race by U.S. Rowing gold medalist Lloyd Butler. The first is a jersey worn by a member of Great Britain's team. The white jersey has a red white and blue strip across the chest and back with a union jack patch with “OLYMPIC GAMES 1948.” A Tangeru manufacturers label is sewn inside the collar. The jersey shows obvious wear with the toning and moderate staining expected from a crew jersey. The union jack patch shows some color bleeding and puckering from laundering and there are loose threads found throughout. Great Britain’s eight oared shell squad finished second to Butler’s boat and it is only natural he would want a souvenir from such a worthy opponent.

The second piece is a cap worn by a member of Switzerland's crew team. The green cap features the Swiss Olympic Team patch sewn on its front. The interior has a “Busi-Sport” label and size “57” and “Olympiade London 1948” stamping. Switzerland won a pair of silver medals in rowing at the 1948 London Games. Two seldom-seen participants' uniform items from the first post-war Olympic Games.

LOA from Butler family.
