This Brooklyn Dodgers satin jersey and pants was worn by famed catcher Mickey Owen. The rarity and fascinating quality of this style of uniform has created a degree of intense interest that far exceeds the already unbridled exuberance that typically surrounds Brooklyn material in the hobby. The Dodgers only employed the specially made satin uniforms for a short period utilizing them on a limited basis in the early 1940's. The unique highly reflective uniforms were created specifically for use during night games as it was believed the satin fabric would improve viewing under the lights. While magnificent in appearance the uniform's quick demise was a result of player dissatisfaction; they were simply too hot. The Dodgers along with the Cardinals and Braves are believed to be the only major league clubs that actually used satin uniforms in regular-season games.

In the back inside collar is the "Wilson manufacturers tag. Attached is the size 42 flag tag. The felt strip tag in the collar has "Owen" in blue embroidered stitching. The white satin tackle twill lettering Owen's No. 10 and the trim highlights on the shoulders and sleeves show some staining and a bit of discoloration. There are what appear to be light pencil markings on the "0" of his number on the back apparently reading "OK City Kid" perhaps indicating some use in a youth league at some point. The accompanying pants' game use is attributed to Owen but feature a white felt "Herring" tag on the waist alongside the Wilson tagging and the "36" smaller tag. The pants are in the same exemplary condition as the jersey showing game use but without structural damage. This uniform is more than an exceptional style rarity having been worn by a four-time All-Star in Mickey Owen who was among the best catchers in the game during the early-to-mid 1940s.
