Here's a treasure of remarkable proportions: a Depression-era New York Giants jersey in a rare style with blue accents and the Baseball Centennial patch. The shirt is in nothing less than spectacular condition heavy wool showing good game use but all elements original and intact. It was worn by Clyde "Slick" Castleman a pitcher for the Giants from 1934-39 who compiled a lifetime 36-26 log with a 4.24 ERA. As noted the jersey features "Giants"in blue felt across the front with blue-stitched piping on the sleeves collar and down the button path intricate stitching that betrays only a wee bit of fraying in the front and some distress on the left sleeve. Castleman's No. 15 appears in blue felt as well. A Spalding tag is affixed to the back of the collar directly below "Castleman" in cursive red stitching the same format that is used for a simple bit of embroidery "39" that appears on the inside of the back of the tail toward the bottom edge. There are six holes (as tailored) under each arm to facilitate ventilation.
