How's this for a double play combination? An autographed and inscribed 8-by-10 photograph of Babe Ruth and a signed letter from his famed press agent Christy Walsh providing background about the importance and significance of the photo. The photo presents Very Good but shows a bit of paper loss off the lower-left corner. The Babe Ruth autograph as was his penchant is a real stunner with an inscription to Philadelphia sportswriter Jimmy Isaminger who was ill and also the addressee of the Walsh letter. The letter on the stationery of the 1940 World's Fair in New York alludes to Isaminger's medical difficulties and expresses the hope that he is doing well. Later in the letter Walsh explains that the signed Ruth photos - showing Ruth in his pitching days with the Red Sox - was part of a publicity effort Walsh had devised in conjunction with the World's Fair Sports Program another Walsh invention. The letter notes that the autographed photo sent to Isaminger is the very first one under the program. It is then signed with a "Christy" signature beneath the salutation "Your loyal and appreciative friend." The letter presents Ex but has three distinct areas of tears and/or paper loss.
