ONL(Frick) baseball signed by New York Yankee Hall of Fame legend Babe Ruth on the sweet spot in beautiful perfect looking 9/10 vintage blue ink. On the panels to the side are the autographs of 10 players representing Babe Ruth's idea of what the real All-America baseball team should look like. These players are: Luke Appling(HOF) shortstop Charlie Gehringer(HOF) 2nd base Earl Averill(HOF) center field Lou Gehrig(HOF) first base Joe Medwick(HOF) left field Bill Dickey(HOF) catcher Frank Demaree right field Odell Hale third base Carl Hubbell(HOF) pitcher and Dizzy Dean pitcher. These signatures are all very readable 7-8/10 vintage blue ink. The unique ball has a great story about how it came to be signed. Back in 1936 around the middle of August the Pittsburgh Sun-Telegram ran a contest whereby contestants could try and guess the players and exact line-up of the team that Babe Ruth was going to pick to represent his 1936 All-American team to be named mid-September. The winner would receive a trip to see the 1936 World Series. The consignor's father and mother were among 5 winners who correctly picked the team and batting order and won a trip to the World Series. While in New York in addition to see the games they had a chance to meet a number of ball players. Carl Hubbell was one that really stood out and offered the idea for this signed baseball. He gave the offered ball to the consignor's father and told him he should try and get it signed by all the players on Ruth's All-American team. He advised to him to get them in person that way he would know that they were real. Taking up the challenge the consignor's father while at the World Series had Babe Ruth Lou Gehrig Carl Hubbell and Bill Dickey sign the ball. During the 1937 season he made 2 trips to Cleveland to get the other 4 American League players on the ball - Earl Averill and Odell Hale of the Indians Charlie Gehringer of the Tigers and Luke Appling of the White Sox. He traveled to Pittsburgh to get the Cubs Frank Demaree and once again to get Dizzy Dean and Joe Medwick of the Cardinals. And that is the story of this amazing signed baseball. By the way the consignor's father went on to marry the female contest winner who was also from Berlin PA. Also included are:

September 6 1936 copy of the Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph reminding readers they only had until midnight to get their picks in.
