This is truly an extraordinary artifact from a veteran National League infielder from the era playing in an historic World Series.Andy High at 5-6 fit his nickname Knee High but still managed to play 13 seasons in the Bigs while batting .284 lifetime. This jersey was worn by High during the 1928 World Series and probably for portions (if not all) of the 1929 season. Against the Yankees in the 1928 Series he hit .294 and wore this home jersey during Games 3 and 4. In fact in the lower back left tail Andy High 10/7/28 is finely stitched into the fabric indicating initial use on Oct. 7 (Game 3) in the first of two home games for the Cards in the brief four-game set. A certain George Herman Ruth socked three home runs in Game Four nailing down the team's second consecutive Fall Classic sweep. The jersey remains in wonderful condition. The deep red sleeve collar and button path braid is fully intact. All three front buttons remain and the Cardinals chest logo projects brightly despite its 86 years of age. The left sleeve bears an St M felt identifier straight-stitched in bright red. The Cardinals wore this sleeve designator from 1927 through 30 as a tribute to St. Louis Missouri. The inner collar holds a bright red-and-black J. M. Sainz Co. (St. Louis) label. Other than a minor pinhole in the middle of the back and a barely perceptible 1-inch cut toward the bottom of the back the jersey remains in solid condition.
