After finishing fifth in the American League in 1933, the Detroit Tigers had their best regular season as a franchise in 1934, finishing with a 101-53 record to win the AL pennant going away. The .656 winning percentage is still tops in club history to this day. Detroit played in its fourth World Series, but lost the 1934 Fall Classic to the St. Louis Cardinals by a thin 4-games-to-3 margin. The Tigers' fifth World Series appearance would be the charm as they won it all in 1935. This memorable Tigers era boasted a star-studded roster than included Hall of Famers Hank Greenberg, Mickey Cochrane (player/manager), Charlie Gehringer and Goose Goslin in the everyday lineup along with Schoolboy Rowe and Tommy Bridges on the bump.
This offered 1934 Detroit Tigers American League Champions ring was awarded to the team's bat boy, Whitie Willis. Made of 14-karat gold, it features a genuine diamond and a tiger's face on the top, with "Detroit '34" on one shank and the rest of the tiger's body on the other shank. The ring has been well worn in its nine plus decades of existence as the relief designs have smoothed over time. Still, it remains in fine overall shape with no condition issues. Ring maker "Sallan" and "14K" are hallmarked inside the band along with "Whitie Willie" engraved in script. The size 12 ring and weighs 17 grams.
