After fifteen years, seven pennants, and four World Championships, Babe Ruth played his last game as a New York Yankee on September 30, 1934. To mark this momentous occasion, International News Service created this composite photograph of the Babe. On the left, a civilian attired Ruth doffs his cap to salute his alternate image dressed in his Yankees uniform. Interestingly, neither likeness of the Babe looks particularly excited about the conclusion of his Yankees career and his prospects for the near future. Ruth did play one final season, spending the first half of the 1935 season with the Boston Braves before retiring for good. A unique composite news photo marking the end of an era, not only for Babe Ruth, but for baseball in general. The front of this Type III has large white borders and a very nice sepia tone throughout. The reverse of the photo has the International News Service, Inc. credits stamp and the original caption slug affixed. The photo has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a Type III Authentic.
