Presented here is an Olympic gold medal from the 1932 Los Angeles Summer Games. Only 320 gold medals were minted (same number for silvers and bronzes) making it all the more special to have the opportunity to acquire one in auction. It is actually made of gilt silver (as are all golds after 1912) designed by Giuseppe Cassioli and measures 55mm in diameter and weighs 93g. The obverse features Nike Goddess of Victory seated above the stadium holding a winner's crown and palm branch with "Xth OLYMPIAD LOS ANGELES 1932" scripted on the right. The reverse shows a winner carried by jubilant athletes. Very well-preserved in both color and texture the medal remains in EX-NM condition with just a few minor rim nicks and some blackening mostly near the perimeter on each side. Although the recipient and event are unknown (no 1932 gold silver & bronze medals provided this info) the medal survives as an extraordinary Olympic artifact something rarely made available to the collecting public.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from renowned Olympic memorabilia expert Ingrid O'Neil.
