Presented here is an Olympic bronze medal from the 1936 Berlin Summer Games. Any medal from Berlin is incredibly scarce (i.e. Jesse Owens gold medal SCP's Fall '13 Auction) and this lovely 3rd Place winner's medal is certainly no exception. Only 320 bronze medals were minted (same number for golds and silvers). It is made of pure bronze designed by Giuseppe Cassioli and measures 55mm in diameter and weighs 80g. The obverse features Nike goddess of victory seated above stadium holding winner's crown and palm branch with "XI. OLYMPIADE BERLIN 1936" scripted on right. The reverse shows a winner carried by jubilant athletes. Very well-preserved in both color and texture the medal remains in NM-MT condition with just a few minor rim nicks and no sign of significant human touch. Adding to the rarity of this Olympic treasure is the fact that it comes in its original brown presentation case (VG-EX) stamped on the top with a bell and Olympic rings design. Although the recipient and event are unknown (no 1936 gold silver & bronze medals provided this info) the medal survives as an extraordinary Olympic artifact something rarely made available to the collecting public.
