Lloyd “Little Poison” Waner joined his older brother Paul “Big Poison” as one of the five star ballplayers featured in the iconic 1928 Lucky Strike trolley car ad campaign. Like his brother Paul and the other three players, Lloyd would one day have a plaque in Cooperstown. A rookie in 1927, Lloyd batted a gaudy .355 and helped lead the Pirates to the World Series. Over the next decade and a half, Waner would average .316 and become one of the most feared hitters in the National League. Little Poison’s trolley ad depicts the young star in a dramatic fielding pose, reaching high for the ball that has landed safely in his glove. Set against the unforgettable Lucky Strike logo, this piece’s composition makes it among the most stunning of all baseball advertising. The unrestored piece shows some surface wear, most noticeably along the top left and right corner, though none of this detracts from the bright colors and dynamic graphics. The 10”x20” ad panel has been professionally matted and framed with UV glass, adding to dazzling display quality of the piece.
