In one of the greatest understatements in college football history, the caption slug affixed to the back of this photo states, “Rockne thinks he will have a pretty good team this year.” As it turned out, not only did Rockne’s Notre Dame squad have a “pretty good year,” but went undefeated for two consecutive seasons! This full-length portrait of Rockne captures the coach in a garden setting donning a nicely tailored suit instead of his more familiar gridiron togs. The Type 1 photo measures 6” x 8” and has four full borders. The reverse has the original caption slug along with the Associated Press stamp. A rarely seen photograph of one of the greatest college football coaches in history.
