The need for soldiers to fight in World War II meant all able-bodied men were siphoned out of professional football. To keep the NFL running through the war years, former stars were called back to the gridiron – including legendary fullback Bronco Nagurski. This Type 1 photo shows Nagurski playfully squaring off against Chicago Bears General Manager Ralph Brizzolara who’s holding a player’s contract for the star to sign. The Type 1 photo measures 6 5/8” x 8 ½” and shows nice detail with all four borders. The reverse of the photo is a wonderful cacophony of pencil notations, date and credit stamps, Boston Herald hologram, and the original caption slug. Encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
