There was no more petrifying image for a pitcher in 1927 than the mighty Babe Ruth selecting a bat on his way to the plate. This candid shot shows the Babe at spring training before the 1927 season. Ruth dons a sweatshirt with his pinstripe pants, mulling over which of his 38-ounce Louisville Slugger war clubs to take his cuts with. Ruth would go on to produce one of the greatest single seasons ever, breaking his own home run record, topping the league in almost every offensive category, and leading the Yankees to a World Series championship. A captivating image that captures the laid-back spring training setting, a lineup of bats spread out in the dirt before the wooden dugout. This show-stopping Type 1 photo has been printed to its edge. The reverse has the N.E.A. credit stamp and several handwritten notations. The photo has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a Type 1 Authentic.

Payment for your invoice must clear in full prior to shipping. All items will be shipped from SCP Auctions’ Laguna Niguel, CA office in the order that payments are received.
