In Game 1 of the 1915 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies played at the Baker Bowl in Philadelphia on October 8 1915 the Phillies downed the Red Sox 3-1 behind the pitching of Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander. It would be their only victory as Boston swept the next 4. Of more historical importance the game marked the first ever appearance of the immortal Babe Ruth in a World Series contest. The promising Red Sox rookie came in during the top of the 9th as a pinch hitter for starting pitcher Ernie Shore grounding out to first base. It would be his only appearance during the series. Ruth had gone 18-8 with a 2.44 ERA during the 1915 regular season as a pitcher and hit .315 with 4 HR and 21 RBI's as a batter. He did not get a start during the Series with Rube Foster(2) Ernie Shore and Dutch Leonard all pitching complete games for Boston.
Presented here is the only known 1915 World Series Game 1 full ticket. The ticket exhibits some creasing and paper loss the latter primarily confined to the reverse where the signs of scrapbook removal are evident. Considering the enormous scarcity of the piece however such condition issues must be forgiven. Ticket is slabbed in an SGC Authentic holder for protection and unquestioned authenticity. It is the only example authenticated by SGC to date with no examples having been recorded in the PSA/DNA census. A monumental ticket marking a seminal event in baseballs most celebrated career.
