Tris Speaker was one of the finest all-around outfielders in the history of the game, and his 1911 T205 Gold Border card is a beautiful representation of "The Grey Eagle" during his early years with the Boston Red Sox. Speaker compiled a .345 lifetime batting average and 3,514 hits over 22 seasons, and his 792 career doubles remain the major league record more than a century later.

Renowned for playing an incredibly shallow center field, he still holds the record for career outfield assists. He won the 1912 Chalmers Award as the American League's most valuable player, played on two World Series champions with Boston and later led Cleveland to the 1920 title as a player-manager. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1937.

The front of this T205 features one of the most visually striking designs in the set, with Speaker's portrait set within a blue diamond against a vibrant red background, an Old English "B" at upper left and "Red Sox" script at upper right. Crossed bats, a glove and a catcher's mask frame his name banner below. The reverse, with a Piedmont advertisement, describes him as "the Boston Americans' hard hitting outfielder" who "is fast on his feet both in the field and when base-running." The gold borders on this example are well preserved for an issue known for chipping, and the red and blue colors remain bold and saturated. Light wear to the corners and edges is consistent with the assigned grade, and the reverse is clean. A colorful and eye-appealing example of a key Hall of Fame T205. Graded EX 5 by PSA.
