Offered is a 1911 T205 Gold Border Ty Cobb graded PSA VG 3 (PSA cert. #175227129). The T205 set is celebrated for its ornate, colorful design and gilded borders, and Cobb's card is the unquestioned key to the issue.

Cobb is pictured in his Detroit cap with the Old English "D," set within a bold red diamond against a vivid green background. A snarling Tigers emblem appears in the upper left, "TIGERS" in the upper right, and crossed bats, a ball and a pair of gloves frame the banner reading "TY COBB DETROIT AM." The gold border, which gives the set its name, surrounds the design and remains largely intact on this example. The reverse carries the Piedmont back, which includes Cobb's biography noting that he "led the batsmen of all leagues in 1910 with the wonderful average of .385," along with his statistics for the 1908 through 1910 seasons and the "Base Ball Series 400 Designs" advertising.

This example presents with strong visual appeal for the VG 3 grade, highlighted by vivid color, a sharp and clean portrait and gold borders that retain much of their original luster. The reverse is clean and fully legible.

The gold borders of the T205 set are notoriously susceptible to chipping, which makes examples with strong visual appeal especially desirable. As one of the most aesthetically striking cards of the tobacco era, featuring the game's all-time leader in career batting average, this card is a highlight for any pre-war collection.
