On November 9 2012 the Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team squared off against the Maryland Terrapins in their season opener at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn New York. This was the very first college basketball game ever played at the venue. In a hard-fought battle the John Calipari-led Wildcats prevailed by the score of 72-69.
This lot features Kentucky Wildcats freshman center Willie Cauley-Stein's game-worn jersey from that very game. It was a very unusual white uniform that the Kentucky players sported that evening a checkered gray pattern lining both sides of their jerseys as well as their shorts. In fact it was worn for this game only. The seven-foot Cauley-Stein made his presence felt that night by contributing eight points for the winners.
The size 52 100% polyester white jersey is sporting the proper "NIKE ELITE" manufacturer's tagging on the front left tail with both "2012-13" and "LENGTH +6" strip tags sewn in. The jersey front features "KENTUCKY" and his uniform number "15" in blue tackle twill outlined in gray. The Nike "swoosh" as well as the "UK" and "SEC" logos also adorn the front. His last name "CAULEY-STEIN" as well as his uniform number "15" graces the back of the jersey in blue tackle twill with the number outlined in gray.
