The 1966 season put an unbelievable exclamation mark on Sandy Koufax’s Hall of Fame career. He led all of baseball with 27 wins, 27 complete games, 317 strikeouts and a sparkling 1.73 ERA. These incredible numbers were good for his third career Cy Young and second in the MVP voting. Offered here is a terrific original photo from his 27th win and 27th complete game of the season, which would be his final career victory. None of those 27 were bigger than this one on October 2, 1966, against the Phillies with the National League pennant on the line. In the second game of a daytime doubleheader,, all the Dodgers had to do was win that game to clinch, and Koufax hurled his team into the World Series with a 6-3 victory in what became his final career regular season game. He struck out ten, walked one, and allowed just two earned runs in another dominating performance. Captioned nicely on the reverse by UPI, the quality and condition are utterly flawless save for light wear on the upper left corner.
