This incredible jacket is consigned to this auction by a personal friend and business associate of Willie Mays who received the item directly from him in the early 1970's. While visiting Mays at his home he asked Willie if he had anything he could borrow to display at a forthcoming business function that Mays himself had agreed to make an appearance at. Mays produced this jacket and and jersey (sold previously by SCP) and gave them directly to our consignor. After the conclusion of the event our client attempted to return the items to Mays. Mays graciously insisted that he keep the items as a token of their friendship even autographing them for him. An accompanying photograph shows Willie Mays at the aforementioned appearance with the jersey and jacket hanging beside him. The jacket and jersey have remained in the sole custody of our consignor since that time.

Here offered is a San Francisco Giants jacket worn by that team's (and some would say ANY teams) greatest player during the 1960s. This black satin-like (snap) button-down garment features "Giants" chain stitched in orange cursive on the left sleeve and black-and-orange striped stretch ribbed cotton at the neck waistline and sleeve endings. A W.A. Goodman & Sons" manufacturer's label is sewn inside the left front opening denoting (size) "48". A large canvas label in the collar bears Mays vintage number 24 in faded black marker. Moderate wear is evident most noticeably on the soft orange fleece-like interior. A vintage Mays autograph and Best Wishes salutation appears on the inside collar area in black marker. Accompanying photos show Mays wearing a similar jacket and seated in front of his locker with a similar jacket hanging behind him. Includes a LOA from our consignor who obtained this jacket directly from Willie Mays in the 1970s.
