Presented here is yet another wonderful virtually untouched presentation flatware set and cocktail tray from the collection of legendary Dodgers skipper Walt Alston in this instance an honor for Alston citing the Hall of Fame manager’s role as manager of the National League’s 1967 All-Star team his penultimate appearance in that role. As the most successful manager of his generation Alston directed the fortunes of the Dodgers for 23 seasons between 1954 and 1976 winning seven pennants and four World Series. Those seven pennants yielded eight opportunities to manage in the All-Star Game since MLB thought the game was such a success that dual contests were held in the summers of 1959-62. Alston ended up with a 7-1 All-Star Game log which is not too shabby and the top mark all time and probably understandable since the National League dominated the event during Alston’s 23 big-league seasons winning 21 of the midsummer classics losing only six plus one tie (Alston’s only loss came in 1956). The flatware is spectacular an eight-piece International Deep Silver set nicely housed in its original polished wood showcase with two dozen spoons eight knives and 16 forks of various specialties plus butter knife and serving spoons with each and every piece appearing seemingly as they might have looked nearly a half century ago when awarded to Alston. The elegant presentation box has brass handles and a nameplate that notes “All Star Game 1967 Walt Alston” and a second nameplate with “International Deep Silver” is affixed to the inside of the showcase. The sterling silver cocktail tray has intricate engraving at the center reading “1967 All-Star Game Anaheim Calif.” along with “Chrysler Corporation” and the company’s logo alongside. The tray reveals only a bit of the expected tarnishing on the right side nothing of which detracts from the overall presentation. All elements of the flatware and presentation showcase seem to be in largely as-issued and problem-free condition with not even a lick of silver tarnishing visible on any of the flatware.
Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Walter Alston Collection.
